Mountains Hochalmspitze - Ankogel/Hohe Tauern Range - one week
In order to cross glaciers or even climb 4000 m-high-peaks in the Western Alps, you
need to be in good shape, experience in mountaineering, good climbing technique as well
as knowledge on alpine dangers. Our practice training for alpine tours will qualify you
to organise your own alpine venture and take you to one of the most beautiful summits of
the Hohe Tauern Range, namely Hochalmspitze (3360 m).
Programme:
to learn or revise the main knots, rope and rescue techniques you need for rock and
glacier tours; how to walk and climb with crampons, how to belay on snow and ice slopes,
slide and stop training; planning and preparation of demanding alpine tours and alpine
traverses, including glaciers; alpine dangers, meteorology, navigation (maps, compass,
altimeter, and GPS); mixed glacier and rock tours to the mountains Hochalmspitze and
Ankogel (3250 m), traverse of the glaciers Hochalm and Großelendkees with practice
training in navigation and crevasse rescuing.
Schedule:
We meet on Sunday at 4.00 p.m. at Gästehaus Hubertus, 9854 Malta 26, phone: +43(0)4733 286. As there is
no bus transfer on Sundays, we will be pleased to pick you up at the train station
Spittal-Millstätter See by arrangement in advance. Afterwards, we hand out the rental
equipment and hike up to the hut Giessener Hütte (approx. 1.5 hours). During the week we
probably change to the hut Osnabrücker Hütte. The course ends on Saturday after
breakfast.
